History
In the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was founded by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The company's first name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was acquired by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling equipment. During the year 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand in the following years.
