Forklift Tire Specs
Forklifts have been an essential device within commercial businesses and industry ever since the year 1917. Throughout its history the forklift has evolved through various forms, from a simple tractor with an attached platform to a specialized high-tech machinery. Forklift tires have also changed into specialized tires, with various types designed to meet specific functions.
Cushion (Solid) Tires
A cushion tire is constructed of solid polyurethane or rubber and is best for indoor work on smooth surfaces. The cushion tire tread is bonded or pressed onto the steel ring of the tire. Cushion tires are rated for various load capacities and for ease of steering. Cushion tires are usually used in warehouse atmosphere.
Pneumatic Tires
Air or foam is utilized to fill pneumatic forklift tires. They are available in two kinds: bias or radial. Depending upon the application, they come with different sidewall protection, tread depths and weight. Pneumatic forklift tires that are filled with foam maintain constant pressures and are less susceptible to punctures. Pneumatic tires are normally utilized outdoors on uneven, rough surfaces.
Pneumatic Shaped Solid/Solid Pneumatic
Solid Pneumatic Hybrid tires combine the comfortable ride of a pneumatic tire with the puncture resistance of a solid tire. They are a good option to the outdoor pneumatic tire.
Large Rubber and Flotation Tires
Utilized on wheel loader forklifts are large rubber tires which could either be pneumatic, solid or foam. These tires are best for loading and transporting heavy items onto trucks or into processing equipment. Large flotation pneumatic tires are suited for masted rough terrain forklifts usually used at auto recyclers, lumberyards and construction sites.
