A kind of machinery in the material handling industry that can be utilized to lift and transport loads from one location to another is called a forklift. Every forklift component has a specific function. Various components can be utilized to transport the load either horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The parts used to lift and lower the load is known as the forklift mast. There are various types of masts for lifting loads to different heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: gas, electric, diesel and propane. The battery is situated within the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is situated on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is under the rear of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is located in the middle of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all situated in the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the largest forklift parts is the frame of the truck. This includes the counterweights situated at the back that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
